Spring Break?

As usual, he weather in San Francisco has been unpredictable, but mostly cold and windy. I was hoping I would be able to enjoy at least one sunny day during my spring break, but that hasn't happened. So far, this has been the most uneventful spring break ever. I am getting some much needed rest, though. After two weeks of studyin my brain out, I really needed a break from school.

Yesterday I hiked up to Sutra Tower for the first time ever! I have lived in the city for almost five years and have yet to see the tower. It took a little convincing from my boyfriend and his dad, but we hiked up steep downtown hills and climbed up the stairs to get to the top. To my surprise, there were beautiful bright green parrots in the trees! Also....I never knew there were WPA murals inside the tower. They were awesome!

Monday night was fun too. Went to happy hour with the gal pals, and saw Buffalo Tooth at Brick & Mortar.

Lily Martine Baxter

I found out about this artist through the Serena & Lily website. The gallery I work for is partners with S&L and we see some of our pieces through them online. After browsing through the other art on S&L, I came across Lily Martine's work. Her bloom paintings caught my eyes right away. I love the colors, the organic feel and the dipping effect. I couldn't find much information about her but I think she's from San Francisco and has had some shows recently in Oakland. Ugh, sooo beautiful!

Rachel Ruysch

Rachel Ruysch (1664-175) was a still life master from Amsterdam during the Golden Age. I studied a lot of her work in the Dutch Golden Age class I took at State. I can't wait to see a preview of her stuff when I go to the exhibit the the De Young and even MORE pieces when we go to Amsterdam.

Still life honestly doesn't do too much for me as far as my aesthetics go. I'm mostly into abstract stuff, but if you look at the incredible amount of detail, I feel speechless.

Judith Leyster was another woman artist of the Dutch Golden Age who kicks just as much ass are Ruysch, Rembrandt and the Hals brothers.

Abstract Wednesday

I'm starting to feel like my photo an hour challenge doesn't make sense for Wednesdays. I'm usually at school for the first part of the day and there's nothing really interesting going on there (unless I take pictures of my notes or the back of peoples heads).

The best thing about Wednesdays is that I've been doing happy hour with my lady friends for the past couple of weeks. Last night I went to a friend's house and we made delicious pizza from scratch. Ahhh it was so good! Paired it with BBQ and honey mustard chicken wings from Wing Wings in Lower Haight and some German beer.

Speaking of German....my boyfriend and I are going on a vacation together in July. This will be my first trip to Europe ever!  We're starting off in Amsterdam, then heading to Berlin to visit a friend. He will be staying in Germany for the next 3 weeks while on tour with his band. I'm so excited, summer can't come soon enough!
